Is affiliate marketing still a viable business option?

Made a bit of cash a few years ago doing affiliate marketing a couple of years back. However the competition out there and the dislike of these sites by Google now look to make it less possible.

Are people finding affiliate work is on the decline?

Still doable if it's done right, i.e. a nice detailed information site that's not overcrowded with links is fine.

If I'm geniunely happy with the info I learn from a site, I'd happily buy a product through an affiliate link as it would cost me the same price anyway.
