No idea if this is in the right forum or if it's been posted before but this is for those of you who want a crippled, overpriced games console from an out-of-touch company with no 'killer-apps' and very few exclusive games!
But hey, the pad tilts.

PS3 is £424.99 delivered. Use voucher FRESH05 to get 5% off - making the console £403.74.
Plus you get 3% Quidco (£12.11) making the cost (including delivery) - £391.63!

Virgin do a 10% discount if you pay via a virgin credit card (+3.5/5.5% on quidco - not sure if it counts as a discounted line)
Or you could pop into a Virgin megastore and produce your NUS card for same discount if you don't have/fancy the credit card.
£381.loose change I'm getting mine for

Doesn't have to be an NUS card - any student card will do. Handy for those of us at universities who want nothing to do with the NUS

Aren't students supposed to be poor?

Just heard Egg card holders can get it at Dixons for £389.49.
Enter code 1530043 at the checkout (£15 off) then use your Egg card for 5% off.0 -

I actually have some HMV vouchers (courtesy of the O2 PAYG Motorola deal pre-christmas) that I was going to use towards a PS3 but I am now thinking of just upgrading my laptop and getting Blu-Ray on that because I don't really want the PS3 for games.
So there is a potential opportunity for me to buy the PS3 for someone using my vouchers. I could sell it to them for £375 delivered, direct from HMV.
I need to do a bit more thinking over the next week but if anyone is interested then PM me.
Note - bear in mind that anyone wanting games for the PS3 should be using HMV via quidco for 10% cashback plus the £5 off a £35 spend voucher that you can get in the voucher section at hotukdeals.com. It seems that you can use the third one down as many times as you like in separate orders before the 31st March. Making most of their games £31.50. Not bad at all!0 -

Lol. Discuss this all you want but the PS3 is far more a complete system than the Xbox 360 or the Wii. The lack of games is no worse than any other launch system. It's just that the Xbox 360 has had an 18 month head start so of course it's going to have more games. But once the ball gets rolling the PS3 will cruise past the 360. You have to realise that the Xbox 360 has still only shipped 10m 360's. And I say shipped because analysts in the industry believe that they forced retailers in the US to take extra stock before Christmas just to reach the golden 10m mark. Apparently these retailers will have this stock for months so 10m is unlikely to increase much. Compare that to over 100m PS2's sold. The PS2 outsold the 360 in 2006 as well.
The Xbox360 is pretty much dead in the water. Most industry insiders agree. The Wii was the only potential challenger and it's start with breath taking pace. but there are already mutterings boredom amongst Wii users. The excitement of the controller soon runs out.
So while the Wii has got off to a much better start the marathon will without doubt be won by the PS3. And to say that Sony is out of touch with it's customers is statement that was being banded around in early 2006 rather than now. They were out of touch but the Bravia lcd range has put Sony firmly back on the map. Sony stock has already gained 30% this year. Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs have both upgraded Sony to 'buy' this year.
So many people in the know certainly don't believe that this Sony and the PS3 are rubbish.0 -
Oh, and you can run Linux on a PS3 and use it as your main computer. It's processing power and graphics card are a class above most pc's. There will also be a specific PS3 Linux operating system coming out over the next few months.0

Thanks for bring some sense.
I am a big gamer and have owned a 360, still have a Wii and have owned pretty much every console in the past. If you know anything about anything you know the technical specifications of the PS3 VASTLY outweigh that of the Wii and 360 and remember the actual price of a 360 + a HDDVD drive ain't that far off a PS3.
I really like the Wii, it's an excellent console with some really good games on the horizon but by the end of the year the PS3 will be leading the market because it's getting all the big titles first, and with better performance.
There is no doubt Sony have made some mistakes with the marketing and PR of the PS3 and the launch but hey everyone makes mistakes.0 -
I've seen industry insiders say the opposite to the comments made above. I haven't seen ANY say the 360 is dead in the water though. They all seem to say it's a great console with a brilliant online service.
However these arguments are irrelevant. You buy a console based on the games you like and which one has those games, not on whether one has an extra go faster stripe. The Wii is the weakest from a graphics point of view but is a fantastic piece of kit. The PS3 may be slightly more powerful than the 360 but is losing many of what were exclusive games for it, to the 360.
People need to look at what the consoles offer and pick the one that best suits their requirements. For many that will be the PS3, for many the 360 but everyone should have a Wii!

Three days ago Sony blackballed Kotaku for reporting a rumour. After outrage from gamers, gaming sites and blogs, they withdrew it. To quote one user:step 1:
- make rumors about potential project ideas to trigger public response
step2:
- collect feedback from people excited or disgusted about ideas
step3:
- take steps to guarantee things that people are excited about become a reality and lives up to the anticipation
.... NOT
step1:
- man outrages claims about changing the world
step2:
- get !!!!ed off about a rumor concerning something that's going to happen tuesday...
step3:
- get the people they're supposed to be marketing to angry. So many people in the know certainly don't believe that this Sony and the PS3 are rubbish.
Who?
Anyway, you buy which ever one you want, if you must buy one now you can for slightly less.0
