Ham
Ham is so expensive!! I can't believe it!
I'm on a carb-free diet just now, so was looking for some nice slices of ham to have as a snack, I was looking in the co-op. they had 80g packs (roughly 6 slices) for £2.99
So I debated whether or not to get their little tiny pre cooked joints, which were £4 but obviously had quite a few slices in there. But then I noticed Ham offcuts, in a large pack.
I'm a big fan of Deli counters offcuts (although my local tesco have stopped doing this ) so I had a nosy at the packs, there were 3 of them.
One had what looked like minced ham in, basically just crumbs but one I spied had actual slices in so I picked that one, it was a lot of meat! Got it home, expected a few grizzly bits but planned to give those to the dog....
found about 4 lovely, perfect slices of 'real' ham....and underneath them? THE END OF A JOINT! A massive chunk of meat, absolutely nothing wrong with it, just the wrong shape for them to put of the expensive sliced packs! I was a very happy lady
£4.09, for a large hunk of perfect ham, plus the 4/5 slices which were in there too, AND some scraps which were all perfect too!
I'm a happy bunny! So always worth a look at the deli meat offcuts, you may just find a wee gem in there

Iceland do ham trimmings, normally nice pieces of meat in there, 450g for £1.75. A box will last us most of a week for lunches.0

Been to Lidl last weekend and bought a 400g pack of Wafer Thin Roast Chicken Ham for £1,79.0

Tina20 I low carb too, there's quite a few of us on a thread in Health, please have a look and say hi.
My OH lurves ham and we buy it in Lidl where there's lots. Also if you have a Polish shop near you, they usually have loads as well.
When I was a kid my mother used to do her own ham for Christmas so I'm wondering if you Google you might find some recipes.0 -
Ham is often reduced at the co-op I find if you go at the right times. Head in at night, about 8/9 if it closes at 10 and you'll pick all the reduced deals. In the co-op near me there's always reduced meat.0

I dont buy pre packaged ham. IMHo its a rip off, I tend to just buy a gammon, and cook it to my liking (with or without extra flavours) and then slice and freeze into packages, defrost as needed0

The Co-op has gammon joints on special offer at the moment https://www.co-operative.coop0
