using an address where you don't live for bank statements etc

Does anyone else who no longer lives with their parents still use their parents address for bank and financial stuff? (and I don't count students here)

And is it right to do this?

It's over 6 years since I graduated from university, and within the last two years or currently, I have used my parents' address for:

student loan stuff / savings accounts / current accounts / credit cards / bt phone bill / driving licence / dvla car registration

Am I am actually doing something wrong by not using my real address?

My reasons have varied from

Not being bothered to change my address every year or so when I move house on savings accounts that only send one statement a year

If an ISA provider asks me for my "permanent residential address" and I have just moved out of one place, am living temporarily at another address with intention to move into a third place in three months time, which address would you use?

I phoned up DVLA in the above example and they told me to use my parents address until I got a "permanent address".

Not having enough identity docs to apply for a savings account at the address where I'm living but having items to prove for my parents address

BT tell me they can't send a bill to our address as it isn't on their three year old version of the royal mail postcode database (even though they give us a phone line here!)

Numerous amounts of mail wasn't being delivered here when I first moved in and I got frustrated at not getting post and and started using my parents address for anything I wanted to be sure I would get

The student loan documents used to state they preferred using a "permanent address" rather than a temporary one, presumably as it makes it easier for them.

Does anyone else have any sympathy with me? Or should I try harder to use my real address on everything?
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

Unless you are a houseowner I do not see any point in changing address everytime u move from one rented property to another - it affects credit score doesn't it??

I split with my husband 2years ago and have 2 children. My main reason for changing all bank, tax credit, car reg, etc to my parents address was so he could not keep tabs on what money I had coming in or going out. He still had access to the matrimonial home. Anyway, I moved out 1year ago into rented property and have still kept all correspondence, and personal details for me and my children at my parents address. It saves me the hassle of having to change address details.

I am now officially divorced and am still using my married name because of convenience plus it is nice to be the same as my children.
I am about to buy a house and thankfully for mortgage application I can just use my parents address as current address, instead of listing 3 properties I have lived in within 18months.
When I have got my own house I will then change all bank, doctors, child benefit, driving licence etc to my new address.

P.S I even have TV licence correspondence sent to my parents address even though the licence is certified to the actual property I live in.

I move around quite a lot with work, and have a new address every 1-2 years. Some of these are outside of UK, so for those items which tend to get forgotten about I use my parents address. I have the mortgage for the property so it is truly speaking my home. It saves a fortune on stamps everytime I move....

I continued to use my dads address for 6 months as I moved to a shared house where the post wasn't guaranteed to get to me (mainly cos someone would pick it up and put it somewhere and not mention it)

so I just kept my dads address

I'm a university student, but my parents moved abroad when I was 16... I have used my Gran's address for bank statements etc ever since, and haven't had any problems (even though I have never lived at her address)

    Two points.

First is that a lot of companies who you order from online won't deliver to an address that isn't the credit card billing address, so you'll have issues there.

Second is that if the DVLA doesn't have your correct name and address details you can be fined £1,000.

bear this in mind your licence is registered at parents house but your car insurance has to be at the current address your living at
