Can you attend a course instead of getting penalty points in Northern Ireland? More specifically for mobile phone use.

As far as I know, the course you are thinking about is for speed awareness, only offered to those who have broken the speed limit(s) up to a certain speed, so may not be offered in lieu of points for a mobile phone offence. The Daily Mail

Think its just the speed awareness course at the minute.....0
-
You get a letter asking you if you want to take the course rather than get the points but you can't ask for it AFAIK. I've never heard of it for mobile phone use though.0

The course doesn't exist if you were caught using a phone while driving. You can only attend a course if you were caught marginally over the speed limit.
Take the points and don't use a mobile phone in future!0 -
If any-one needs a 'course' to teach them not to use a mobile phone when driving is an idiot.
If you are caught using a mobile when driving, good............0 -
Obviously the course is to get rid of the points and therefore not have an increased insurance premiums.
I asked a money saving question and I'm not interested in those who have nothing better to do than post unhelpful, judgemental comments.0 -
In fairness OP, the replies, if maybe harsh, are correct.
What sort of course could they possibly run for those caught using a mobile whilst driving - we all know you're not supposed to do it (and we still do)The Daily Mail

Yes, we all know. Totally agree that there is no excuse. I never implied there was.0

You can't so get over it.
People like you put others at risk probably more than a few mph over the limit.
Agreed
Only 3% of road deaths are caused by speeding and 16% by drink-driving
4 out of 5 road deaths are the result of careless driving
