Overtime & Travelling time

I am a "PART TIME WORKER" & have been asked by my employers to attend a course (50 miles away from my normal place of employment) at the end of next month
I have asked for an hours "travelling time" which has been refused as has any time more than my normal working day to attend the course
Is there any requirement in law that I can quote in order to get a payment ?

National minimum wage is the fall back if the hours make your average pay below NMW.
In one off cases it is down to negotiation and the impact of not doing the course
Are they paying expences to get there?0 -
I would ask for expenses plus if that wasn't fourth coming i would add that I will not be attending. And as previous poster has said the extra time will take you below NMW mention that too to your employer.0

No. There is no legal requirement for them to pay expenses.
What you can do though is record the mileage and claim the mileage at HMRC rates via a P87 however that wouldn't be done until the end of the tax year and its done as a rebate so unless you earn enough to be paying tax, you'd not get anything back and if you do get something back it will be 20% of what you claim.0 -

Travel time isn't included in working time unless written into your contract.0 -

The OP is a part time worker and more than likely not earning a fortune, just depends how important the training is, but i would refuse if expenses through work weren't met by the employer.0 -
The OP should claim expenses, but a 50 mile journey won't be paid in terms of time. A full timer would be in the same position.
The only way I could see it would be wrong is if the part timer only works 4 hours a day, and the course is 8 hours.
But paying for her time to travel there is having a giraffe!' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -

No requirement but most employers with at least give you travel expenses, though prehaps not travel time.
Last time I was on a course I got paid for my diesel and some wear and tear allowance but not the travel time.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

Presumably if the OP refuses to go on the training course and is unable to work competently because of it, she can be perrformance managed out? Ovbioulsy that is the least welcome outcome all round but a bit of give and take on both sides means this scenario could easily be avoided.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Are there any full-timers going? If so, are they only being paid 4 hours for it, or are they getting their full 8 hours? If they are being paid 8 hours, sounds like discrimination against a part time worker to me.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0
