Clydesdale and Yorkshire banks to axe 1,400 jobs

Apparantly they are axing their 'Financial Solution Centres'. If it is anything like 'Finanacial Solutions' in other banks this means selling overpriced or worthless financial products to the public. Assuming that is the case, UK PLC are better off without these jobs.

The implication of what you are saying is that these people are incapable of holding down a different job. That is neither flattering nor true. Historically, banks have tended to recruit the more capable members of the workforce. The skills of these people would be better employed creating wealth than skimming money from the general public.

    Not quite true.

They are losing 1,400 jobs between now and 2015. Not quite the same thing as sacking 1,400 people overnight.

oh you've ruined it now - i was hoping for mass unemployment and for nasty bankers to be kicked out of their jobs

i guess i'll just have to scour the internet for another source of economic armageddon :(

Well if they're in the private sector they must be essential. There's no such thing as wastage in the private sector.

The difference between the two is that I don't have to pay for private sector waste for the most part whereas I have to pay for public sector waste under threat of imprisonment.

Not called waste in the private sector it is profit, doesn't really matter though because we still pay for it when we consume something.
