So embarassed about my teeth cant afford the dentist !!

As the title says i am so embarassed about my teeth
they are awfull and i really need to see a dentist but
A) i am far too embarassed about the state of them and
B) i have no spare money to pay for it as i know it would cost me thousands.

It may sound stupid to some people but this is really affecting my life
i just dont know what to do and i dont know how much more i can take because of this.

i dont know why i posted here really it is a last resort as i know that there is nothing that anyone can do with no money and nowhere to turn to for help
but thanks for reading i really wish i could have a magic wand

doesnt sound awful i have seen worse ... can you not get registered with a local nhs dentist ? are you claiming benefits? some benefits mean you get free dental treatment

as for being embarressed to go and see the dentist this is something you really need to get over as only a dentist can help you ... the alternative is a worsening of your teeth and you dont want that do you ?
  • There are no dentists round here taking on nhs patients i have phoned up nhs direct but the waiting list is extortionate
i live in quite a small area of wales.
also i am suffering with depression and quite severe high blood pressure and the state of my teeth is not helping either conditions and i just dont know what to do
but thanks for your reply it means alot
  • i dont claim benefits as both me and my husband work allthough saying that i have been of work now since january through my depression and high bp
  • i think if i could find a sympathetic dentist where you could pay monthly then maybe this might help me but it is trying to find one
i have looked but had no luck
i just havent got the money to pay for it outright and cant get a loan or credit card or i woyld also have done that if i could

Can you travel to an area where a dentist is taking on NHS patients? My dentist is quite far from where I now live but I was happy and didn't want to swap. Also, do you have access to any employer provided assitance programme? Somewhere you could discuss your anxiety about your teeth/dentist so you'll feel a little bit more comfortable.
  • i have never heard of the employer provided assistance programme
i work for the local authority but work in a school hence some of the reason i feel so embarassed as i work with secondary school kids
i have to see occy health in a weeks time but i am too embarassed to ask
    thanks for replying

Please don't be embarrassed to see a dentist about your teeth , whatever the state of them you can guarantee any dentist will of seen worse. They will not judge you but get on with the job of sorting out your mouth. I know because I was in your position many years ago and when I finally plucked up the courage it truly was such a relief and revelation to find the dentist just wanted to help me. Could you talk to your GP he might be able to help you find an NHS dentist especially as your mouth might be affecting not only your state of mind but your health.. please talk to your doctor and tell him what you've told us..
