15k-18k in London. Is it good enough?

Hi all!
I am a recent graduate and just came across a job opportunity in London that I am quite eager about. Unfortunately it just pays 15 to 18k. I have never lived in London and would like to know if its decent enough?
Thanks!

I hope when you say "costs 15 to 18k" you mean it pays 15k to 18k, look at how much it would cost for rent etc on a few property sites.0 -
You'd take home £1200 a month. That's enough for rent if you house share, food and basic bills, and some transport.
I earned £18k in my first job after uni - and commuted from the South coast on that, so it's definitely doable. But it does depend on finding a house share with low rent, and being disciplined in what you spend your money on.
If the prospects in the role are good, and if you really like the look of the role, go for it. Pay won't be an issue unless you get the job anyway!
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
Don't forget to factor in the transport costs. The further you live out of the centre, the cheaper the rent, but the more expensive the travel...0

I think it was reported that the breadline household income in london was over £50k.
If they are advertising 15-18k that i'd say you could afford a small bedsit with a shared bathroom in a undesirable area.
You could get by, but would have no disposable income.
If it would lead to a promotion or experience where you could command double/treble that an upwards within a coupld of years it might well be worth the sacrifice.
I didn't realise graduate jobs paid so low these days.0 -
It's a pathetic wage for London and the firm should be shamed for paying such an unrealisitc amount.0

Don't even think about this job unless it is part time 20-24 hours a week. That's ridiculous amount of money to live in London. Joke.
I earn just above 26K a year in much cheaper area (East Anglia) and I'm stunned to read that 25K is British avarage. You wouldn't expect that from the cars you see on the streets...
My post is not to praise how much I earn, but I live in England just for few last years and don't know things like that.
Again: Avoid and search for better job. Get real with money.0 -
Well, it is not a wage that would attract people for whom money is the main motivation, but if you want the job for other reasons and are willing to houseshare and live frugally you could get by on it.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

there are loads of jobs paying less in London. I have seen lots in accounts paying £12k.whitegoods_engineer wrote: »It's a pathetic wage for London and the firm should be shamed for paying such an unrealisitc amount.0 -
Unfortunately the majority of graduate jobs are now offered with a wage of 15k or less. I would love to get a job in London and move there but I just cannot afford it. And the jobs where a higher wage is paid are so competitive it is only graduates from red brick unis who gained firsts who will get it.0

On £15k you'll be taking home just over £1k a month - it'll be tough to live in London, but it's doable, as long as you can find somewhere cheapish to live, you don't spend too much on travelling and you don't mind not having much of a disposable income. But if the jobs got decent prospects then it might be a good start.0
