Excessive sweating

Hi,

Does anyone else suffer from this rather embarrassing problem?

I'm starting to think that i actually have hyperhidrosis, but i'm not too sure.

Yesterday i bought one of the more pricey anti-perspirants. It's called "triple dry" so hopefully i'll see an improvement with that.

My main issue is sweating on the face. I know at times i get really nervous and this brings it on... but other times when i'm rather calm, i find i still sweat a lot on my face.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions, especially with facial sweating?

I used to have a huge issue with night sweats, not the same as your issue but along the same lines maybe. I used to wake up- and still have the odd occasion now when it happens. I would wake up and be able to wring my clothes out- I'd have only been in a cotten vest top and thin cotten capri trousers. I'd have the same issue with my bed sheets and to complicate things further, what would have woken me would have been the shivering because by then I was freezing cold so going back to sleep without my sheets was not possible, I'd have to get up, wash, put on something else and leave my bed to dry whilst I slept elsewhere. I already had problems with insomnia but the night sweats went on for about 5 years and just made the whole thing worse.

I don't know what changed for me because they don't happen as often anymore- if at all. They used to happen every night and I tried everything from stopping my anti depressant to exercising more (infact no matter how long or how hard I exercised for, I'd never match the type or amount of sweating I'd have at night), yoga before bed, eating different foods, taking out all stimulants (caffiene, alcohol, refined sugar...etc) nothing made any difference. I did try the Sure Maximum support deoderant which does work if you use it every day just like the leaflet reads but as I was sweating everywhere but my head (even my calves were sweating- I didn't even know it was possible for my calves to sweat!) so it only stopped my sweating in the patches I applied it. I'd wonder if the deoderant your thinking of trying would be similar.

One thing that I did find odd was the smell- the night sweats I had didn't smell at all, yet the same day I'd have been to the gym and my gym kit would smell of sweat. Odd!

I didn't get my thyriods tested during the time I had my night sweats but right now they have stopped and so have my periods :( I am nowhere near the menopause- my mum is still in the menopause so its not likely to be the reason, added to this I have since had thyriod and hormone tests and everything has come back fine so as to why I had the night sweats and why now they have stopped, I really don't know.

I would go back to your Doctor and get things ruled out, I know there is treatment for those suffering with the problem. I was not offered anything because I was too busy to keep going back and also too embarassed. I wish I'd made more of a fuss but to be honest, three appointments and each time the Doctor shurgged their shoulders...theres only so much time you can take off work to keep going back and getting help, and when you feel like you've wasted a half day to hear "what would you like me to do" or similar its not unreasonable to give up! But I do wish now I knew what the whole thing was about as I wonder if its linked to other symptoms I'm experiencing now.

OP, don't waste your money on too many products, they work well for normal bouts of sweating but if you are experiencing anything like I was, your going to find products are very minimal, the best thing they did for me was make me feel like I was doing something. I'd like to say I felt better about the scent but literally the whole thing would just wash itself off with the volume of sweat so don't waste too much of your money.
  • If you suspect you may have hyperhidrosis, I would suggest you to talk to your GP and request a referral. You will be tested for thyroids and others first (cannot remember how many tests I had).

I had hyperhidrosis and followed all treatment options from this site hyperhidrosisuk.org/treatment-options.html except medications (the doctor said side effects are too severe). It took me 2 years and 4 months in 3 hospitals (one for each treatment option plus Aluminium Chloride antiperspirants as a starter). I finally decided to have a surgery last June. I have to say it is the best decision I ever made. I would only recommend the surgery as the last option with lots of trade-offs. I almost cancelled mine. I am so glad I did not. I have a new life with minimal sweating and no hand sweating at all (one of the trade-offs).

My main areas were hands and feet. I had to put a kitchen towel on top of a mouse when I used a computer. Mobiles and shoes had minimal lives because exposed to water.
Sorry cannot help with facial sweating. I just carried facial wipes and tissues. I had a lot of facial sweating when exercised. I always got big triangular wet areas on my chest after 5 minutes running. I just showered afterwards.
