Declaring Overseas $ Mortgage in UK Application

We own an apartment in the USA which we rent to a tenant, it's a $ mortgage with a US bank from when we lived and worked there.

Now living in the UK, we want to apply for a UK mortgage for a UK property. my question is are we legally obliged to declare the US property as a liability on the UK application?

Legally you should answer every question truthfully.

I do know of someone who "forgot" their second home, on the grounds that if money were tight their priority would be paying their UK mortgage as that is where they live.

I don't know if it would make a difference to a lender as the rental income covers the mortgage. I suspect some lenders are bothered less than others and a broker would know which ones would view it favourably.
