You said in post #5 that she had already received a refund for earlier years? So you need to check the claim doesn't overlap.

But you can only go back to 08-09 in any event now.
That is correct. It was some years ago that she applied. IIRC it was around the time we went to Australia, which would've been 2006.

It was most certainly before 2010, i'm 99% sure it was before 2009 & i'm reasonably sure that it was before 2008.

However, let's for argument sake say that her application (previous) covered up to 2008, so that she's "owed" from 2009 onwards.

As her previous employer has retired & shut the business down, does she just put the name & address down, or is it not worth it? I assume they'll get in touch to chase this up - but the business has shut down, so there'll be nobody to get in touch with, so is applying for a refund from this previous job even worth it?

HMRC will still have PAYE records. So you give the name / address and the Employer Ref (from the P60) .... as well as her NINO. Should matter not the business has closed / merged etc.

Part of the point I was making is that you can now only go back to 08-09. Earlier years are now closed w.e.f this last April.

    Thanks for that.

Should be fun trying to track down her previous P60s.

As for her 2010/11 P60 ... she never received one. She was made redundant in the final days, or perhaps even the final day of March 2011. She started her new job in the early days of April - somewhere around the 4th/5th/6th. She never received a P60 for 2010/11.

You only need one of the P60s to pluck the Employer Ref from (for that employment). You won't (normally) need to submit them.

So my gf got a letter sent off to the tax folk requesting a refund & a code change.

She received a positive, but strange reply.

So she's been given a tax code hike - so there's her allowance, but they mention she's already received for 2009-20012/13

If they're talking about the claim i mentioned earlier in this thread then that is nonsense! That claim went in somewhere around the time we went to Australia, which was 2006, so +/- 1yr either side, i'd say the claim went in between 2005-2007. Most certainly not 2009-2012 though, so i can't see how she'll have already been paid out for those years.

Still, at least she's been given a code hike i guess.

If her tax code was increased for those years ( which is what I would have expected given the last claim) then she would have had the allowance.

Perhaps give us a note of her tax codes for those years and we could advise?

    That's what would be expected.

    Cheers jem.

I don't know her previous tax codes as she's not here at the moment & i don't know where she keeps her P60s.

Not to worry though - she's happy enough with the outcome. The family would be a bit poorer without me constantly looking how to help them out with income :D lol

Nice allowance IF you can get it !!!!

im Forces, so obvioulsy have a uniform. it is NOT washed by the employer. There are NO free laundry services. Single accommodation has WMs in the blocks - but you have to supply your own deterants and you pay for the WMs in subscriptions. Married personel get no help.

Tried claiming the standard £60/year and was told ~"you dont qualify - Officers get an allowance for uniform and other ranks are provided fee laundry services". Completely not true. I challanged it - and they have passed it on to a "specialist" to look at - thie Was Feb. How long does it take ?????
