Hi All,
I've just purchased a 5 litre Tower Family pressure cooker which I tried for the first time yesterday.
It has a little weight thingy on the top which is supposed to pop up to reveal either red, yellow or blue bands and this tells you what pressure setting it is on.
My problem is mine doesn't seem to do this. I've used the pressure cooker to cook a couple of things and it seems to work ok in that respect but the colour bands do not pop up! Has anyone got any ideas?
Also, how long does it usually take for the automatic air vent thing to seal itself? Mine was taking over 10 mins and then only with a little help!!
It is very scary to be in the same room as it but I am hoping it will revolutionise my life!
Thanks,
GL

I have a prestige one and when it takes long for the vent to seal and therefore come to pressure I stop it and take off the lid and turn round the seal as it usually means that the seal is not making a good contact - I use my ring on full and then the cook timer pops up and I then adjust the heat to keep it right - may be different in the one you have - they are magic and well worth persevering with thoughSaving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

Thanks susank. I was wondering whether it was making a good seal but I couldn't see any steam escaping from around the lid - just loads from the air vent!0

Sometimes the vent gets a bit leaky with age! Esp. if the cooker has boiled dry and overheated. I sometimes "lift" mine if it's seems to be taking too long, and when it's in place the weights will rise. Check out you local hardware store or Ebay for replacement vents and seals, they are expensive but well worth the investment."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
