Overdraft passed to KPR

Hi

Hopefully someone can help me,

I have an oversraft with Nationwide for £350, I have had it for a few years now as a while ago we had a few problems, my husband was made redundant just after I found out I was pregnant and all was just a bit of a mess. Anyway I recently received a letter from NW saying they had reduced my overdraft to £250 and asking me to pay the £100 to bring my account within its limit. Again were really struggling at the moment, we have had two cars die on us in the last two years both have had around £1000 spent on them to find out that theres nothing that can be done and we have had to buy new cars so £100 is alot of money at the minute. Anyway I asked NW if I could set up to pay monthly, they sent me out some forms to fill in about a month after the original letter and then now I have received a lette from KPR a debt collection company who want me to pay this off. I offered NW £100 to to bring my account within its limit even though this will mean we will struggle for a month but it seems this isn't good enough for them. I'm really not good with understanding what everything means and where I stand etc, I have looked at other forums but it goes right over my head and I'm just at the point where i'm so scared its making me ill. Please can someone help me in what I can do? As I said I will be able to pay £100 but should I try and contact NW or KPR?

Thanks for any help in advance

Some debt companies will try and push you into paying up but if you dont have the money then you obviously cant. They actually cant force you to pay more than you can afford. I would write to them with a breakdown of your income and expenditure and make them an offer based on whats left over. If they took you to court ( I doubt they would) the judge is not going to look at them in a good light for refusing your offer. You have a small overdraft and have made an offer to pay a third of it so thats fair I would say.
Do they have a website ? I set up a repayment plan with a debt collection place and didnt even have to phone. Just logged on and set up a plan. It was £40 a month for a £385 debt if that helps to give you an idea.

Are you still using this account? That is, is any of your income going into it?
  • No I don't use this account anymore. Nothing in or out.

Good. It's just a debt then. And KPR are Nationwide's in-house collectors so the account hasn't really gone anywhere.

As long as you are going to make a reasonable offer per month it should be accepted.
