Hiya
Have searched to see if this is elsewhere but had no luck.
At the end of 2005 OH was dismissed. He did not immediately find alternative employment so submitted a claim for JSA.
His applicaltion was turned down because (if I recall correct) there had been insufficient earnings in the year before. We accepted that decision and in Feb 06 OH found another job. End of story.
However last week, we recieved a P45 Job Seekers Allowance claim form stating that claim ceased on 16/12/5. Didn't think much of it and filed it away.
Then this morning, he got a letter from JSA stating that they are paying £170into my account (as the tax refund) and the money is there.
Please can someone tell me what this is all about.

When you work, tax is taken from your wages at a rate which presumes you will earn the same all year. As there was a gap in employment, you have paid too much income tax and, therefore, are due a refund.0

Thanks for that.
OH was actually out of work for 8 weeks after that date.
Is it worth trying to get a refund on that tax too ?0 -
You could contact HMRC and ask. The number will be on their website.
