Car Allowance, Contract Hire and Hire Purchase

Hi all,
I'm looking at taking a new job, which will mean a good pay rise and a car allowance. However, I will need a new car as my current vehicle is old and knackered and not suitable for visiting clients.
On top of this, I am in a debt management plan with CCCS.
Does anyone have any tips on the most cost effective way to get a reasonable condition car that will handle a lot of miles and how to go about financing it when in a DMP?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
