Lying on your CV

You do what you have to do, and you can be a long time unemployed in this climate. I would just put it down as 18 months andthen if its queried say something along the lines of Im sure it was April not May that I started.
If your the right fit and they want you, they are not going to be bothered. Its not a dreadfull lie, your not pretending to be a DR or something.0 -
I wouldn't lie full stop. But in your case, it is such a tiny lie, that it isn't worth the risk - if you are found out they might think well such a small lie so what else might you lie about?I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

17 months isn't going to stop them interviewing you if they think you could be the right person for the job and by the time you've done several interviews and handed in your notice at your old firm you will be way past the 18 months required! As another op says - it's to stop people who only have 6 months or 12 months experience - I think it's more about seeing if you have stayed in one place for a while - they don't want to employ someone who leaves every 12 months or maybe is only in this country to work for a limited time.0

I don't think 1 month will mean your CV isn't looked at (worth sending in).
I would maybe leave dates off - eg started in June (even if 28th June) and send in.
Good luck0 -
Yeahi agree, not worth it. having said that i doubt the dates on my cv are right! They are roughly but if i cant find P45's I just guesstimate. I generally have more than one job at a time and many have overlapped so often cant remember start dates either, its never been questioned but i wouldnt deliberatly lie. I leave off jobs that aren't realivent though, like the job i had for 6 months on a sunday morning 5 years ago etc. Aslong as i've covered that time with education or main employment i see no need to include it especially because i hated it and didnt last long! Goodluck0

If a post is advertising for applicants with x-amount of months/years experience, and you're just a little bit short, go ahead and apply anyway.
For the sake of one month lacking, it's not worth the risk of lying.0 -
Say that you done some temporary work with a recruitment agency. If they ask why it's not on your CV say that the job was quite simple so you don't feel that it adds to your CV. If they want references say that the agency has shut down.
This is quite the truth for me, I have worked in temp assignments for recruitment agencies which I don't put on my CV. I think this excuse would work for anyone. I doubt they would follow up reference for a place you have claimed to work with for a month.0 -
Keep it simple - tell the truth. Put 17 months paid and in brackets add 4 years voluntary.
I wouldn't worry about being a month short, and your voluntary work shows commitment as well as being useful for experience. I would worry about lying, as it could come back and backfire on you. Lying on a CV doesn't inspire trust in an employee.0 -
Agreed, in fact when looking at loads of CVs I don't have time to add up all the dates so if it looks "around" 18 months, it'll do for me.Debt free 4th April 2007.

If you do lie, that can lead to your dismissal should they find out. Is it worth risking your job over?.Never Knowingly Understood.
