Also, it would be worth looking at any saveings that are 100% in his name, and making them joint as your mother will need access once he goes in.
As they are married they should be considered to be shared, as sometimes that age group had everything in the man's name.0 -

In answer to a few questions we are in England. Grandads needs are based on Parkinsons and Dementia, Definatly nursing care needs. Told the care home we orginally wanted could not take him as his needs are to great for them. Limited mobility and personal care needs.
Savings are way under the limits and all accounts are in joint names. Grandad has had carers twice a day for the last month and just done the assessment for payment of fees for that and its zero. They currently live in a HA warden patrolled flat.
The matron of our second choice care home came to see grandad today to assess his needs and he moves in on monday eeekk. This is going way to fast for us to keep up.0
