Scotcall

Hi

This is the first time I have used this site. I am hoping someone can help. I had motorbike insurance with Express Insurance which I cancelled Sept 2011. I knew there would be cancellation charges and assumed that this would be taken out by direct debit as were all the payments. I never thought any more about it until 2 weeks ago when I recieved a letter from Scotcall. Since then I have had daily phone calls and text messages. I have phoned them to state the above, also told them to call back at the end of April 2012 (as I had just been made redundant). they are still contacting me daily I repeat myself again and again. I now have blocked every number they have contacted me from but they must have loads of different numbers. I was asked yesterday to confirm my mobile number...I laughed and said you have been phoning me daily on this number and I answer everytime so why would I need to verify it????? This constant harrassment is really stressing me out and all for the sum of £39.63..I cannot find any governing body they belong to. Need to know who to go to , to make a complaint as they are Scottish? Please help. I will pay them it was a genuine mistake but I am now on Jobseekers. Many thanks for reading.

make an arrangement if you owe it then, not that much
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    Ooh, ok.

Right. Standard 'get off my back' type letter telling them you consider their behaviour to be harassment and this is contrary to OFT guidelines. You demand that they desist from calling you until they can prove the debt. Send it recorded delivery twice and then just change your telephone number.

Can't see it doing any good though. There's the likelihood of both sides here spending more money than the debt is worth.
  • Companies like these must work within UK law and at this present time unless they can prove the debt and provide you with written evidence of this, they in essence they are Harrassing you, which is a criminal offence. Report it to the Police if it continues and they haven't given you proof of the debt.

    The hard way?

Because they'll happily beat you over the head with the heaviest 'law' book they can find when it suits them but conveniently forget those same rules when it doesn't. It's extortion unless you can prove a debt exists. No debtor should ever just 'pay' to get them off their back. There's a principle at stake here which is worth the effort of a few letter. Whether the OP is of the same opinion, I don't know, but he should be aware of the option so he can decide, rather than being co-erced into just paying.
