Pension and Tax Relief

Hi just wonder if anyone might be able to help and hopefully this is the right page to post this on.....
My OH was self employed and had a private pension which he set up 20 years ago after opting out of surps. He has been claiming tax relief on this through his yearly return. He is now paye and is wondering how he claims tax relief thank you, should he get an pension relief allowance as part of his tax code thanks

Basic rate tax relief will almost certainly be happening automatically.
If he compares the amount being added to the pension investment statement, it should be higher than the value deducted from pay (or paid by cheque) by the value of basic rate tax which the pension company reclaims. (I'm assuming it's a personal/group/stakehlder/SIPP pension rather than an occupational pension)

An adjustment to the tax code is only required for higher rate tax payers.

Thank you for your reply, helps a lot, it is a personal private pension and not company funded, he does pay some higher rate tax though so suppose I need to inform them, thanks
