Hmm, its amazing how these hours get used up where is not offered most employees wouldn't even get near 5 hours of appointments in a year

It was amazing when someone wanted to knock off early on a friday, proof of appointment had to be provided and it was also allowed if you had a child with an appointment.

I would never expect to be paid for time off for appointments, I would expect to have to use unpaid or annual leave. However I do think employers sometimes could be more flexible. My Doctors is quite inflexible, so is the Dentist and hosp appointments. Within a few parameters they are more or less dictated! My Husband employees 4 people in a small business, he won't pay for the time off but does happily allow them the time off. He feels it is better for them to look after their health and go Dentists etc rather than be off sick for 2 weeks with an abscess or the like.
I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.

My last place had a contract entitlement to time off for GP/dentist appointments in it, up to 3 hrs. Time to be made up at manager discretion. Only stipulation was to attempt to get appt as close to beginning or end of day as possible. I'm going to miss that at whereever I end up next!

Where I work gp/dentist appointments have to be worked back or taken unpaid, but if it is a hospital appointment, you are allowed up to three hours paid leave per appointment. The logic being that most people don't go to hospital very often, and those that do probably have something fairly seriously wrong with them. Also, it is possible to request GP's appointments at the beginning /end of the day (for most people) but hospital appointments you go when they say

My Last employer was more enlightened on this than many others I have come across they gave us 15 hours per year for appointment times, they realised that sometimes it is impossible to make appointments outside of working hours.

Very generous. I've got hospital appointments coming up - I'll have to book them as annual leave because its impossible to get schedule a hospital appointment, let alone be seen on time!
  • Paid time off for appointments?! Very generous. As I don't get to choose my leave and cannot leave work early and work it back - I have to book my appointments outside of work hours or take unpaid time off.

OP - considering your husband is allowed flexiable working I don't see what the problem is.
