Cheaper to post some items after 30th April

Hi,

This is more a don't 'grab it quick' post!

I am posting a standard letter today using 2nd class recorded.
It is costing me £1.13.
Normally, I stick 3 2nd class stamps on and buy a 5pm stamp at the post office.

From 1st May, this charge rises to £1.45.
At the same time, the value of 3 second class stamps will rise to £1.50.
Therefore, it is cheaper for me to delay posting this letter until 1st May.

Ok, for the sake of 5p, it really doesn't make much of a difference.
However, if I post a lot (as some people can, as it is nearing wedding season etc) - then the savings could multiply depending on what they are posting. My point being - work out the value of the stamps you will be sticking on the envelope BEFORE 30th April and AFTER 30th April.
If the aggregate saving is worthwhile and posting can be delayed by a few days (whatever service you use) then you may want to delay posting. Obviously, this all depends on buying stamps before the deadline.

HTH someone!

If you buy your second class stamps now won't it be even cheaper? ie - 3x36 = 1.18

    £1.45 is cheaper than £1.13?

I'd rather pay £1.13 even if it is more expensive!

Of course, if you are thinking about buying the 2nd class stamps now, that is not a million miles away from using 2nd class stamps purchased now on letters you send in May. I thought that was why so many people were going out to buy stamps now.

    ..........

    Think you've missed the point

He already has (will have) 3 x 2nd class stamps

In this example to send it today it will require these PLUS another 5p stamp

After the price change the extra 5p isn't required - in fact the 3 x 2nd will be 5p OVER the required postage
