I suppose that sunflower oil would be best, but depending on what you are cooking, and how efficient your extractor is, I think that there will always be a smell with deep frying. I would keep the windows wide open as well.

I got rid of my fryer years ago because the smell was too much to bear! They all stink and the smell lingers for days and welds itself to any favrics and it is vile.. I occasionally allow OH to make chips.. but all the windows and the back door have to be open and the extractor on AND the doors to the rest of the house closed!

If it wasn't raining so much I would make him use it outside on an extension lead lol

I can just imagine him out there, rain lashing down, deep fat fryer on, chips splashing away in an oil/water mix, a ribeye steak drowning on the BBQ, and him huddled underneath a golf umbrella with a tinnie in his hand.

I use sunflower oil - and open the kitchen window! I find it only stinks if you try to use it more than five or six times! or do onion rings in it!
oh and the hotter the oil the more it 'seals' the surface of the food and the less it takes on the smell or seeps into the food. one reason why stir frying is healthy! deep frying tends not to be as people dont cook to the correct temperature.

Get a Tefal Actifry. Great chips and an end to kitchen smells. :)

Get a chip fryer with a charcoal filter in the lid, or a Philips Airfryer.
