Naming a business

Hi Guys,

I hope this is the right forum section.

I've decided to become a freelance graphic designer in my spare time (mainly to see how good business would be before taking the plunge full time and leaving my current full time job).

My main idea would be to become a mobile designer i.e. I will come to visit the clients as opposed to them coming to meet me for their convenience.

The only issue I am having is naming the business and I've been struggling for a name for weeks when I come up with the initial idea.

Ideally I want the business name to have the same domain name (website address) as its easier to remember but all combinations of my real name seem to be taken so the next best thing would be something catchy for a graphic design name and I wanted to try and pick peoples brains for methods of the name or even developing a name between us.

Well done for taking the initiative . This is exactly how my OH started his own business.

Do you have some ideas about a name ? can we see them ?

The reason I ask is that my OH just dropped one letter from the domain name to get the domain he wanted yet it doesn't deter people from the website if that makes sense .

Hopefully it will become a nice second income and then lead on to a full time position itself.

I've come with various names over the last few weeks on paper but all taken when I go to check domains etc........ones I've come up range from things like Digix, Digipix, Pixme Studios, to more 'out there' ideas like pixelpirates etc as well as the generic standards like jhdesigns, coventry graphics (thats where im currently based) but so far nothing has hit the nail on the head.

Ideally I originally wanted a one word name that was something catchy but possibly a mix of 2 or 3 words but after a while even the good ones start to look rubbish so I need to a fresh outlook

LOL the first thing that came to mind was IggyPix after reading the samples you had.

Well done for deciding to become freelance, I'm (sort of) doing the same thing, just find it difficult to fetch work!

Hey,

Thanks for the post, I lol'd at IggyPix as I've already got that name written on a scrap piece of paper. Even fresh of the brain waves were names like Vicosign as a mix of Visual Concept Design but it sounds like a foot cream to be fair so still stuck at the drawing board.
