in Cutting tax
Hi, I received a letter through the post, where the HRMC have said that I paid too much tax from 07-10. 07-08 they owe me £554.05, 08-09 they owe me 554.00, and 09-10 they owe me 550.00.
They said in the next 14 days they will send me a cheque. Will I get the full amount £1658.05 by cheque?

it is likely that the overpayment from 2007/08 was carried forward into the 2008/09 calculation. and likewise for 2009/10. Do you see it under 'overpayment from a previous year' towards the bottom of the page? If so then you will be getting one cheque for £550 only.0

Unlikely - you can't add P800s together - HMRC have already done that. Hence the 'adjustment' carried forward from the earlier years to the final one.
The figure to be repaid is on the final P800 and with a '16' to the right hand side. If you read Note 16 on the P800 Notes you have - it tells you that?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

There is a 16 on all of them, from 07 till 10. Does that make a difference?0 -

Apologies - I've just checked on a few of mine and you're right (where each of the years reviewed is overpaid).
To get to the figure you can expect a cheque for, you need to follow them through from the earliest year. If the earliest overpayment is 'adjusted' onto the next year (and so on) ..... then it is the final one that contains the overall net overpayment of all the years. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
