Everyone's buying houses again!!!!

Boomtimes are here again .... I did warn you all last year that you needed to buy QUICK, or get left behind - well, it's too late now!!

The number of homes sold in the UK rose sharply in March as the typical spring bounce took hold, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) said.

There were 74,000 completed sales during the month, up from 63,000 the previous month, the figures show.

So, at a time when the country is borderline recession, even though interest rates are pretty much non existant, and we desperately need people to spend and inject life into the economy, more people are tying up a disproportiante amount of their income in over priced houses

    .......And this is good news?

It shows confidence .... what would you rather buy ... car, TV, or a HOUSE?

Clue:- it is always a House - as it always has been - it's the easiest big pile of money you will ever make in your entire life!

Hmm, its true that houses in my street are selling like hot cakes, and for a high price. I had thought it was just my area though.

I hope so, houses going up in price everywhere else doesnt really benefit me.

Sorry to (sort of) go off topic but I am noticing that houses in the Algarve are starting to look cheap

    You could be right!

Take that £100K out of the bank, change it to €122K, and watch it double to €250K in two years!

In two years that's got to be worth... er... about £80K if you're lucky.

    Four things:

Firstly, sorry I honestly don't want to sound condescending but I'm looking at houses way over that value. As it would be for our retirement I/we don't care what its worth when I die (you can't take it with you). Although our friends and the Dogs Trust and/or the Last Chance Rescue Centre may experience some dissapointment as they are likley to be the eventual owner of our property.

Secondly, I can't really see us buying in less than 3 years time in any case (more like 4+ years tbh) but obviously rapid market changes may affect that timing of when to buy. So by your reckoning we would get an even bigger discounted price. Although your currency/property price expectations look extremely bizarre to me.

Thirdly, on the 'you can't take it with you theme I think it’s important to enjoy what you have rather than leave it in the bank, there's no point in being the richest person in the graveyard?

Fourthly, I haven't yet looked into the tax situation of Gibralter, that could change everything as I think savings interest is tax free there as well as occupational pensions. Although I don't know if there is much to do in Gibralter, if not I wouldn't want to spend most of my life queing crossing the border to Spain.
