And yes, a huge number of them still have to do tax returns.

If the Office of Tax Simplification get their way - that may not be the case for long! ;)

Although they have pointed out that the rumours of 20% witholding tax on the State Pension at source ..... are only rumours. But in the 94 page document on pensioner issues and complexities - and from which the Chancellor pulled the recommendation to freeze age related allowances - they do press the case for bringing the State Pension into PAYE within DWP rather strongly. That - allied to an individual agreement to relax the 50% maximum deduction via 'K' codes would remove most pensioners from SA.

I'd love to see how this would address capital gains, higher rate interest and dividend income as these still require returns, as I'm sure do 100s of other income streams that our canny (but computer shy) old folk use.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.
