Hello, i have such a fancy for caramel shortcake!!!
But i dont think i have the right things in the cupboard for the caramel! I have butter, white sugar and condensed milk, all the recipes say i need brown sugar or syrup.... is this essential???
Many thanks!

You can make it fine with white sugar, it'll perhaps be a touch sweeter tasting is all. I make it with whatever sugar is in (raw, white, whatever) and switch condensed milk for cream or even milk depending. Maybe add in half a teaspoon of vanilla extract to it even if the recipe doesn't call for it, just for the flavour.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

Just put the condensed milk into a saucepan and heat it gently until it is a caramel colour. You don't need any more sugar except for your shortbread.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
