I bought a 200g jar of Kraft Vegemite the other week in the pound shop and it tastes good on toast. :)

Will be taking one with me on holiday when I go to Greece in June as the mossies don't like the smell of it when it comes out of your pores.

I tried vegemite for a while but not a patch on yeast extract - not fussed about the actual marmite brand. I think I paid £1.49 or £1.39 for the last jar from morries or even aldi. We get through loads of it.
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

I buy either tesco or asda yeast extract and love it and it's half the price of "marmite"
  • I tend to buy Marmite, but it does take us ages to get through a jar. but we used to have Yeast Extract when we were small because it was so much cheaper. It doesn't taste exactly the same, but I would put it in the 'stick with it because you soon get used to it' category. The difference in taste is not sufficiently different to justify not buying cheaper, if you see what I mean. Actually, that can be applied to many other products as well. I didn't like the taste of Vegemite though, which I thought was not much like Marmite at all.

Vegemite is definitely NOT the same as Marmite, not a patch on it. Own brand yeast extracts are a good substitute for the real thing, but still not quite the same. Marmite is one of the few branded things I always buy.

Vegemite is quite different to marmite, I do like it but it's not the same. Very hard to find offers on marmite and the own brand ones just aren't the same.
