Personal Trainer owes me money

Hi

I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

In December I paid a Personal Trainer £300 for a number of PT sessions. He told me he would give me a receipt at our next session. I paid him cash!!

He visited me for the initial meetup and then 2 sessions. He then sent me a text message on the morning of the next session (about 2 hours before it was to start) asking to change it. He then didn't turn up for the next session and gave me no notice.

At this point I sent him a message saying I did not want to continue (these sessions were meant to get me back into regular exercise and a mental state to help me go to the gym).

He called me and gave me lot's of assurances and when I said I had not receipt he apologised, saying it was an oversight.

I agreed to meet with him to discuss the way forward but he never kept the meetings.

I asked for a refund to which he agreed, then told me I was being stupid not to let me train him. He said he would send me a cheque, when it didn't arrive he told me he was selling his car and he would pay me the next week. The next week his facebook account said he was going on holiday and yet the same day his Twitter account said he was very ill and in hospital.

I contacted the franchise he worked for but they told me they had parted company in December and had no record of me on their system even although he gave me branded materials. They also told me they were not liable for the money.

The professional body he was a member of have told me his membership has lapsed and whilst they will make a note on his file there is nothing more they can do.

He eventually got back in touch and told me he would pay me in installments so I asked him to send me a payment plan. He then said he was seeking financial advise from CAB and eventually told me he was applying for bankruptcy (we are in Scotland).

He is now refusing to make contact with me and told me I am stalking him and not being fair. I can't believe he thinks I can throw away £300. I don't believe he is applying for bankruptcy. I have called CAB and the body in charge of bankruptcies in Scotland but they can't do anything as I don't have an address for him.

Can anyone give me any advice on any route I can take now.

Many thanks.

Best advice I can give is to write it off.

    An expensive lesson.

Don't pay individuals cash for services in advance

    :(((((

Just put it down to experience.

I dont think its worth the hassle.

If you wanted to go down a different road you could text him and tell him that your friend is a Journalist for a local/national newspaper and will run a story in him...

That may persuade him to pay up.

£300 cash..you will be very very lucky to see this again.Do you have a paper trail with emails ect ect...if he has no money it is best to put it down to a life lesson because it will cost you to go to court and he might offer a £10 a month..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

He seems to be agile enough to jump over these hurdles. By the sounds of it his promise is worthless, try a more formal route.
