First Direct mortgages???

Options
Hi

We're about to go through the remortgaging process with a 50% LTV.
How do you rate First Direct as a mortgage provider and what is there customer service like?
Can you overpay without fees etc?

Thanks for your help.:D

  • I rate them 10 out of 10. Customer service is fantastic.

I guess that overpayments etc will depend on the specific product you choose. Mine allows unlimited overpayments.

I've been looking at First Direct a lot as a potential remortgage. I don't *know* they are very good from personal experience, but I have seen numerous threads and articles saying they consistently come out top for customer service and satisfaction.
The overpayments depend on the type of mortgage you take, but a quick search on their site throws up a lot of their deals offering unlimited lump sum or regular overpayments.

Good luck, and let us know how you get along with them!

First Direct generally allow unlimited overpayments. They also have offset mortgages.

Their customer service is good but their criteria is tighter than many other banks and building societies. They aren't very good for consent to let if you plan to move in the near future.

At 50% LTV I can't see you struggling.

  • I'm just re-mortgaging with them at the moment so I can take an offset. Also at 50% LTV. They have been great so far, really easy to get everything done. I just had one 45 minute phone conversion, then signed the application form then the next letter I had was an offer.

I have banked with them for just over 12 months too which helped as they could see my income and expenditure history in detail.
  • I have an offset mortgage with them for around 4 years. Customer service has been great. Phone is always answered quickly. I don't often have much call to ring them though, as I can do most things online.
  • Been with them for 4 years, they have been excellent.
  • Remortgaged to FD three years ago. Had great service from them and would certainly recommend them.

As mentioned, they are one of the stricter lenders and only accept those with better credit ratings (they accepted me, but wouldn't accept my high earning/spending brother). Having said that, credit has tightened up from all lenders, so I don't think its just an FD issue.

I believe from late last year FD has become even more stricter as others have mentioned on these forums. Unless you are completely clean and have good deposit (which you seem to clearly have) I would not try them.

Hopefully you get a good deal with them.

With 50% deposit I would try them regardless.
