I keep a spreadsheet which I update every day from my online banking which analyses all my spending into columns. I do have a column for small cash expenses as you cant analyse every single pound spent but I try to keep this as low as possible.

    Couldn't agree with this more.

Online banking + a spreadsheet = clarity and focus
  • well here is where I am at after 2 weeks of settling

    Lowell 3G= £306.36 settled for £107.23

    Lowell Vanquis = £320.79 settled for £112.28

    in 2 weeks time:

Santander £802 and Nationwide £340 (due to charges being added negotiating reduction for removal of charges as charges account for between 50-80% of the debt, offer referred back to client)

    6 weeks later

capital one £ 402 (also currently in negotiation)

then debt free so to speak (got HSBC CC keeping that for building credit along with O2 mobile).

Love the spreadsheet idea. I put my monthly incomings and costs and am now just starting to break it down into categories. I'm still trying to figure out how to set it out to be user friendly though, so any tips you have, Yorkshirelass, would be much appreciated.
Luckily I haven't smoked in about 16 years so no money goes on that.
Awayinchina, congratulations on your debt settlements. It's these little things that make me think it can be done.
