Any ideas why?

Hello,
We got a call from the Inland Revenue on Thursday saying that i had until 8pm on Friday night to return the call. Unfortunately my wife was out and i am offshore at present, so she never checked for messages until Saturday evening. I work offshore and follow the seamans tax rules and fill in online self assessment forms. Does anyone have any idea what they want as i got the letter saying i was ok for 2006. Its a bit worrying with the way they said i had 24 hours to reply. Do you think its just a mistake on my form, an audit or something very simple. I know its a long shot asking here but i was just wondering if anyone has had any similar calls.

Thanks

It may have been as simple as one person wanted to speak to you about something and that particular person was only working until 8pm that day! There is nothing that HMRC would ring you about that would have such a deadline ...it probably is a simple query - if it was anything more then you would receive it in writing anyway.
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

Thanks for the reply, i hope thats the case but i have until Monday morning to worry about it!! It turns out we also received a letter on Saturday morning as well but she hasnt opened it. At least all my documentation is up to date and i have proof of all of may dates out of the country. In the past i was late with a return and thay fined me several hundred pounds in late fees ( my own fault), but when they got the paperwork and realiised i owed nothing they had to cancel all of the fines, as thay can only fine you if you owe them money. Good to know
