It's always worth speaking to your tax office - i recently made some enquiries with them and had to send in my last few years P60's and P45's.
Earlier this week i got a cheque for just under £1500 through

what is the refund based on just over paying? they are allways sending me letters asking for extra to cover my pension amount.3rd Light Bulb Moment 31/12/08Current debt

Some of it was from when i broke my foot and didn't work for nearly 2 months but was taxed the rest of the year as if i had been working for that period. For this reason i was expecting maybe 2 or 3 hundred pounds
They did a full investigation over the previous 3 or 4 years and it seems i had been on an incorrect tax code so the total amount was much much more.
I am now about to go out and have a totally un-DFW spending splurge courtesy of the tax man!

Depends on your circumstances, what do you intend to do now, eg get another job, claim jsa etc?deanchilds1 wrote:Hi All!

In that case you should hand your P45 to the job centre, and you will get any refund due from them.0 -

Still not heard anything about the refund. Any ideas how long it takes?3rd Light Bulb Moment 31/12/08Current debt

Easily 6 to 8 weeks for a tax repayment. The pension letter you mention above is possibly about national insurance not tax - in theory they let you know if they think you have not paid enough NI. However getting such a letter is not a reliable indicator that you have not in fact paid enough NI. If you have a patchy work history eg because of study then you may get such a letter. if you are a mother claiming child benefit then broadly you will get credit for NI even if not working so probably don't need to pay.0

If you are still claiming JSA, the benefits office will make the refund either at 05 April 2007 or when your claim ceases (whichever is the earliest.)0
