How do I find a good mortgage broker?

We are looking to buy our first home in the next 6 months (have been renting for last 8 years but now have deposit saved). I would like to find a good whole of market mortgage broker but after looking on the internet for local brokers but there are so many I'm not sure where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is there any reason why you want a Whole of Market service?
WoM brokers will only consider commission paying deals, while an Independent Mortgage Advisor can consider ALL lenders.
Best way to find someone is to ask friends and family for their recommendation, failing that try www.unbiased.co.ukI am a Mortgage Adviser

Thanks for the reply... think I have got confused with whole of market (I thought it literally meant they search everything available) so thanks for putting me right, could be a costly mistake otherwise. I will check out the website you suggest.0

I would use google, maybe ask family?
There will be a few local ones, maybe speak to them see if you get on with them as you will be speaking to them a fair bit over the coming weeks?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Luckily for you you asked the question, most people dont....ticktockticktock wrote: »Thanks for the reply... think I have got confused with whole of market (I thought it literally meant they search everything available) so thanks for putting me right, could be a costly mistake otherwise. You are doing the right thing by looking around and getting a recommended adviser. I have found that a good adviser is worth their weight in gold, a poor one can mean more stress and potentially losing the house you want. Take care when choosing and remember, above all else, they are working for you. Don't settle for a level of service you find unacceptable.0
