Debt letters gone to a customers address?!

Good afternoon all.

Me again, need some help and advice!

I used to be a mobile hairdresser about 3-4 months ago and have just had one of my clients text me to tell me there are debt letters for me at her house, all delivered this morning.

There are three of them relating to an old address - I have just started a self managed DMP and the three creditors were all written to about a month ago with my new address.

How could they have got her address? I've never lived there and certainly never got any correspondence there? The only record I have of her address is it written in my diary - it isn't even on my computer.

How on earth could they have linked the two addresses?

She has given me the telephone numbers but offices are closed now, so I will call back on Monday.

Just looking for advice and suggestions?

I would also be worried as to how this customer knows they are debt letters.

Envelopse arent usually marked 'This is a debt letter'

Presumably she must have opened them.

She opened them cause she recognised my name and obviously my letters shouldn't have been there!

One of them says it's due to a link with a credit reference agency?!

If she recognised your name then she certainly shouldnt have opened them to be honest. She should have just passed them straight on to you or sent them back saying 'not at this address'

  • Seems very strange, possibly they aren't for you. someone with the same name?
Personally i would go and collect the letters to see for yourself.

They are for me - they have an old address of mine on them.

I don't understand how a credit reference agency can have her address as a "linked address"??

Has she applied for credit in my name?

I think you should check your credit record to see when the addresses became linked, and maybe why.

I think someone might have been taking out credit or a mobile phone in your name

I am trying to but it is saying problems with validation, so I need to call them and the companies who the letters are from on Monday. Hope it gets sorted as I am panicking now!

When we moved house, and I used my friends address temporarily for mail to be forwarded (through post office). Now they get some mail addressed to me using their address, so someone passes on details somewhere along the line, when they shouldn't! Not that it really helps but it is weird how these things happen! Think its more likely that someone tracked you down and saw you visiting that house and therefore it was put down as one of the addresses to mailshot regarding the debt, than them taking out credit in your name. Hope you get it sorted!
