Is the cashback showing in TCB? Still unconvinced this is a genuine HP link.

    What's In The Box

    CQ198B HP Deskjet 1050A All-in-One (J410g), HP 301 Black Ink
Cartridge, HP 301 Tri-colour Ink Cartridge, HP software CD, setup
guide, reference guide, power supply and cord

The printer you get for £17 is just a printer not an all in one, i have just opened mine and was disappointed as i had gone by "what's in the box" above. The HP Deskjet 1050A as above is showing at £34. I will be returning mine as i need an all in one.

It doesn't make sense does it that you can get a new printer for not a lot less than you pay for just ink.

Ink is a consumable so generally has much higher profit margins. Just like USB cables etc. Most cost the shop about £1-£2 then they sell them for £12-£15. That's the reality unfortunately :(

I received the printer today instead of the all-in-one. I'm positive I ordered the all-in-one when it was £17 but when I checked the acknowledgement e-mail, it said I had ordered the printer. I've e-mailed customer services about this.

I used to work for one of the largest HP resellers in Europe - it's well known within the industry that printers are often sold at cost price and sometimes less because they will make the markup back on the consumables like ink and special paper.

You also have to remember that the carts in the box with the printers are usually not full fill ones, normally they will be about half the capacity of the retail ones, sometimes less.

Check out the price of the cartridges before buying a printer, HP's may be cheap for the printer but time you add in the factor of replacement cartridges upto £20 each depending on the printer its just no worth it. HP 301 and 301XL cartridges can be refilled for £6.99 but still more 10times more than a epson compatible.
also note that the color cartridge is 3 colors so when 1 is used the other 2 become unusable, it will tell you its empty.
I remember the time i bought a lexmark from QVC and when it came to replacing the cartridges was disgusted at the £30 for each of them yes £60 total, for a printer than 3months previously only cost me £75. luckily my brother got me some cartridges for free, dont know how, in the end i chucked out the printer and bought an epson.
currently have a epson sx200 and compatible cartridges work out at 50p per cartridge with 21ml of ink in them, i bought 14 carts 3years ago and still have 1 set remaining.

I remember the rush to grab a cheap Dell printer in the past, it was something like £15. It was I think a rebadged Lexmark but Dell had modified it so it could only take Dell cartridges and not Lexmark or 3rd party ones. They cost a fortune only from Dell, something like £50 a set. Compatible cartridge manufactures didn't bother making cartridges for it as the customer base was too small to justify. Dell even shipped them with barely any ink in the cartridges. Vast numbers of them ended up in skips shortly after.

Buy an older model Epson that is well supported by compatible cartridges for less than £1 (newer models tend not to be yet).
