Council tax refund

in Cutting tax
Hi, since we moved our old council owe us £146 in overpaid council tax. It says on the final statement. Now we have to write a letter to claim it back. Why didnt they just enclose a cheque instead of having us write a letter ughhh typical! Anyway, is there a template somewhere I could use please. thanks

You don't need a template, a simple letter stating that you wish X amount to be refunded from account XXXXX would be sufficient.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

And I can think of a couple of reasons they don't send a cheque immediately: 1. they might not have the right address for you, and they're checking that with this letter. 2. you might have moved within the same CT area, and wish to have the overpayment offset against your new CT bill in your new home.You don't need a template, a simple letter stating that you wish X amount to be refunded from account XXXXX would be sufficient.Signature removed for peace of mind0
