Seeking additional borrowing while on unpaid maternity leave?

I need to get some home improvements done and it would be best to get them done asap. I have two more months of unpaid maternity leave to run before returning to work. I want to raise some additional borrowing on my mortgage - there is a ton of equity in my house.
However, will I be refused additional borrowing because I have no income for the next two months (although I have plenty in my current account to cover extra repayments)?
And if I am refused additional borrowing at this stage will it affect future requests?
In other words, should I try my luck now, or hold off until I have money coming in again from my salary?
