What about an activity day - eg car racing, tank driving, gliding. I know Argos and Boots both sell these and a search on the internet will come up with several other companies. I always arrange activities for my other half as anything practical we want we tend to buy for ourselves. Good luck- I will watch with interest for other inspirational ideas. Rgds0

Why not go to London for the day, and go to a Matinee performance at the theatre, I did this for a Xmas pressie for my OH and he had never been to the theatre before, went to see Phantom of Opera and we were both blown away, was fantastic. A really good day out, and one to remember, rather than just buying gadgets that get chucked in a drawer after a month...0

How about a Skip_Pan driving experience ?
Good present but with a real safety aspect as well.

They do take single participants. Its OK to go on your own too, as you form teams for the day. It's an excellent day. Might blow the budget though....0 -
thanks everyone for your suggestions, they were really appreciated, i've booked him a driving day for tommorrow, plus the usual bit and bobs, new shoes jeans etc, and decided to get him an engraved pen as a keepsakeenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0

For anyone else still looking for ideas for men in this age category, I bought my dad a coin album and a put a few foreign coins in it. He'd never collected coins before, or shown much of an interest, but he loved it, and now has 3 full albums and is dropping hints for fathers day for a fourth.
I got him a old blue peter annual last Christmas, and again he's racing through collecting them all. He used to watch it when he was younger, and if it ever 'happened' to be on he'd be watching it, so I thought he might like to see an old annual.0
