How do I make money from the net/youtube?

This is a serious question, and I am asking it because times are pretty dire for us at the moment. I am out of work, and getting no replies from agencies or direct applications, and my missus' job is looking shaky.
We are going to start by selling anything which is of value but which we honestly do not want any more.
I have said that we need to look seriously at working for ourselves, because sitting/walking/driving around looking for a job does not seem to be working.
We had looked at several things - starting a restaurant, photographic studio, car/bike repairs - but these are all risky now and demand a fair bit of capital, which we do not have.
So, how do you start making money online, from a blog, website or maybe instructional youtube videos?

I feel for you but only because I and many others have been in the same situation NOT because I feel sorry for yourself (and nor should you).
Your question is a very broad one and is akin to asking "how do I become a millionaire ?"
There isn't a solitary path to success but seeing as you have a large amount of posts and have therefore done your share for this online community I will try and show you some of the ways you can make money online.
I presume you know how to upload videos on Youtube. If not then read their instructions-it is very simple.
People make money from youtube by directing viewers to their "money site".
You can do this in Youtube by
a) Uploading a video and then adding a caption showing the web address you want to direct people to. You could even mention the web address during your broadcast.
Adding captions can be done for free using Windows Live Movie Maker.
b) You could also add the website address in the video description so viewers can choose to click on it if they want more information.
There is a third option but it's rare people get to this level
c) Your video becomes so successul and goes viral to such an extent that Youtube will pay you money to advertise on your clip. My advice-concentrate on the first two options.
You can make money from websites in a number of ways.
a) Affiliate marketing:
This is where you write content about a particular topic e.g. baby monitors and then you join affiliate schemes with company that happen to include baby monitors within their portfolio. The biggest ones are probably Amazon and Ebay.
Using code that you simply copy and paste into your webpage which create a link that directs the visitor to Amazon, Ebay etc and if that viewer then buys then you are given a commission.
There are hundreds of affiliate programs out there from British Airways to Argos. Tradedroubler and Commission Junction are two of the biggest affiliate companies in the market.
You can also make money by doing the above but instead of adding affiliate ads you simple sign up to Google Adsense. Google will give you some code that you copy and paste into your webpage and then relevant ads show up on your site. Every time someone clicks on that ad then you get paid a small amount of money. Google knows when someone is trying to click defraud them so don't be tempted.
If money is tight then you can set all this up for free.
Wordpress and Blogger both offer free blogs. Squidoo is another one I recommend as they take care of all the affiliate side for you practically.
There is a lot more to say but I can't go on forever and I hope this has given you a brief insight as to how you can make money. No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
Money can be made on youtube if you can get a lot of hits and traffic on your video. Then companies pay to advertise before your video etc
When I was hard up for cash I did the following:
Created an ebay account
Attended car boot sales regularly
Bought some domain names
Took part in online paid surveys:
https://www.panelopinion.co.uk - this is my favourite survey website, it is simple but effective and I have won a lot of money on here...You can withdraw your money when you get to £10 and it doesn't take that long to build up a good amount.
https://www.valuedopinions.co.uk - this website is good because they frequently have new surveys, which means you can qualify for them more often.
https://www.surveyfriends.co.uk - this website rewards you with vouchers and prizes, which seem VERY easy to win lol. During 2012 I have already won a £50 amazon voucher and a £10 ticketmaster voucher and my friend won a 40" HD TV just before xmas. I am recommending this website based on our recent and previous success
I have joined numerous other survey sites but have had the most success with the ones above.
Remember: Never pay to join any survey site - its often a scam
Good Luck:eek: 2014: £20 voucher from SurveyFriends, £10 cash payout from Panel Opinion too and working towards more from Valued Opinions currently.
2013: £35 and £50 vouchers from SurveyFriends! More than £15 made from other paid surveys sites (Yougov, Panel Opinion, Valued Opinions, Pinecone, etc.) Happy so far!0 -
To make money from Ads on Youtube you do need a fair number of hits a day, anything less than 1000 hits a day will make you very little.
You get money from ads on Youtube in 2 ways. Firstly from people seeing the ads next to the film or along the bottom of the film. Its impossible to give an accurate figure because it changes throughout the day but it averages out at a few pence for a 1000 hits. Secondly there are click through hits. The real money comes when people click on an ad and diverted to the advertisers web site. Those sort of clicks can vary between 1p and £1+ each depending on the ad. The trouble is that very few viewers will click on an add and hence you need 1000's of hits a week to make any money.
If it appeals then take film of things you are interested in (hobby related etc), spread the work on Facebook etc about films you upload and try and get as many hits as possible.
Finally, if you do all the above and get a youtube account with ads, don't try and cheat in any way to up the number of click through hits - they are very hot on cancelling suspect adsense accounts and will cancel any other google related accounts at the same time (youtube, gmail etc)0 -
Two fold question. You said online and youtube. I am no youtube expert however I have and do sometimes still trade online at Ebay and Amazon.
Personally I buy and sell from commercial auctions. Items like: Airport lost property, police recovered items proceeds of crime, bankrupt stock. People always seem to think this is a secret institution of hard to find places which it really is not. In fact you can now even bid online at many auctions.
For online bidding look up ibidder at google. I would though highly recommend finding a local auctioneer as it really will pay to view and test the stock first. You can get stung, always thoroughly test electrical items if possible. If not bid low.
Places I know
Dreweatts (Bristol) Google and then look up the commercial section. These guys use Ibidder
City auctioneering (Bristol) Google it. Local only don't use online bidding at present.
Simon Charles: Lancashire, uses Ibidder. Have fallen of my seat watching stuff sell for 10 quid online. Shame I dont live closer but am considering a Van hire to buy some stuff here it goes that cheap.
Just for some inspiration Things I have bought and resold
220 quids worth of DJ Equipment: Sold on Ebay for over 600
60 quids worth of Airport lost property clothing sealed in bags, 8 large bags worth. Sorted, washed where needed, listed and sold on Ebay for just over 700 quid. One All saints spittlefield coat made the investment back in one sell.
Hope thats of some insight for you.0 -
I love people who know things and are happy to share their knowledge. I am going to try paid online surveys. Has anyone seen this ad on Amazon, "Get paid for working on-line?" Apparently there is a woman in London called Melissa who makes £400 plus a week. What's that all about?0

I suspect it is an ad for a guide on how to replicate "Melissa" so that you can make that money too. It will probably also involve you handing over some money that will, at best, give you access to info you can find easily enough on this very website for free. Just a guess.
Good luck with the surveys, that's definitely a legitimate (if somewhat time consuming) way to make money online. There are plent of helpful threads on them too but if you want any specific advice, feel free to send me a pm0
