I won! I won! I won! ........sort of.

So......my mobile rings today, I check the number and it's an 0207 number (heart does a somersault)
I answer and a really cheery lady says "Hi is that Sarah?", "Yes" I say (heart still somersaulting) "Hi, I'm xxxx from stylist magazine..." (heart stops somersaulting as much, as the magic ITV hasn't been mentioned) "do you remember entering a competition recently to win an iPad?" (heart speeds back up) "YES" I say.
"Well congratulations...." (heart somersaults clear out of my chest) "you have won......the runner up prize of a space in a work out class at a gym in Chelsea tomorrow night" (slowly reach down and pick my now troden on heart and rplace it back in my chest)

Thankyou Jean III for posting the competition, I am grateful really, just wanted to kick cheery lady from stylist magazine in the shin for building my hopes up :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hate it when that happens to people, they build you up and then bang it's not a win but say a call to sell you something.

me - speaking
him - hi, my name is ..... and im calling from Eon, you entered a competition online to win £1000
me - (thinks - OMG OMG OMG) says - yes thats correct
him - well ........ we randomly call people who have entered the comp to give them a quote to see if we can save them money on their utility bills
me *wants to jump through the phone and rip his tongue out* im sorry i dont have time for this
him - oh ok, when will be the best time to call you back
me - well never as im very busy
him - ok, thank you for your time

Thanks everyone. Just to add insult to injury, I've got to take my son to a physio appointment tomorrow evening so can't go to the class anyway!!!

few days ago happened with me as well with EON
or the other one with big congratulation on email title and you open to find out a big sorry you not won this time but will give 20%....grrrrrr

Oh me too I so hate calls like that, and emails that say congratualtions winner the the subject and its not you. hate it so much hmmmmmmm

Oh no what a nightmare! Great story though! Your time will come! I had a similar one yesterday from the Postcode lottery....so you recently entered a competition to win an ipad, well if you win we'll send it out in the post, but whilst your on the phone would you like to sign up........

I am so sorry you did not get the iPad but I am afraid thats the price we pay for entering the competitions.

Just had this as well. Seemed very miffed when they asked if I was the bill payer and said my partner was and wasn't in.

You play to win a sportscar... worth a lot... I entered a few of the comps and won 4 x box games..

They recorded the call and you can hear my voice and heart drop when they tell me it was for xbox games and not a supercar!

Its on the website... Very funny
