Royal Mail Recorded Delivery

Does anyone rate this? The only reason I ask is that I sent a cancellation letter to o2 via recorded delivery at the end of January, and for 2 weeks o2 denied any knowledge of it until it finally 'turned up' a couple of weeks ago. Now I know this is probably down to o2 internal mail systems and not necessarily down to the Royal Mail. I did try the tracking system on the royal mail site a few times (and even again today out of interest) and its stated 'its on its way' everytime. A case of failure to update there systems or the post office failing to get a signature?

You are entitled to put in a claim if it is not showing as delivered, a bit of a pain I know but if everyone did then I sure they would put an end to Posties not doing their job properly.
My Postie is great by the way...:)
  • You've got a few problems here.
The Postie may of not got it signed,it happens,it's not fair, but it still happens,
but it does not mean that it hasn't been delivered.
With a big company like O2 they will obviously get a lot of work,so the work would be boxed or bagged up for them.
When sorting, the posties may not 'pull out' the recordeds as there is so much work, and some of the work may come down 'pre-sorted' by machines so they will be hidden in allocated bundles as well.
Especially for Firms that have a lot of work.

Recordeds are treated the same way as normal mail and go throught the same system.
They shouldn't but they are, there is no special tracking system for them until the Postie gets them signed,if he gets them signed!!!

As for normal recordeds to be signed for say you guys at home,it's just lazyness by the posties.

Where I work we don't use recorded delivery anymore as it has proved to be totally useless when things have gone missing in the past - PO just not interested. We always use Special Delivery - which is more expensive - but at least you are guaranteed that the item will arrive the next day.

You can put in a claim with royal mail, As someone above said. My OH has claimed quite a few times, once when it wasn't signed for so returned to sender and royal mail couldn't even be bothered to get it back to us! They have always paid out with no queries, so IMO it's worth doing. Especially when you have something of value. (Altough ours have only been up to the standard £30)

But all they ever pay out is a book of 1st class stamps- is it worth the effort?
Unless, someone out there knows of a downloadable standard letter I could use
You know what... you can't beat a good bargain!!!

No we've recieved cheques to the value of what ever was inside. We got claim forms from the post office.

RM will not give you anything. I sent 3 recorded letters to CPW. None of them got signed. They didn't get received by CPW so I had to send another recorded and sent one 1st class just in case. I had to wait 14 days before I could claim compensation. I tried to claim from RM but got no where. They sent me a form which i completed. Then they said they sent a form to CPW to fill in to confirm they had not received my recorded letters. Obviously no one at CPW is going to have the time to fill these in. They then sent me a letter telling me no one at CPW completed the form and I have 5 days to get a completed form from CPW otherwise my claim will be cancelled. Obviously there was no way I could get the form to CPW and back to royal mail within 5 days. RM are a load of cheating B*****DS. They are happy to take your money but not to happy to give it you back when they can't be bothered to provide the service we have paid for.

Saeed, I can see why you had the problem, especially with CPW, my OH has sent items to private people so I suppose thats why we've had no problems in getting compensation, but as I've said we've done this quite a few times and all times recieved cheques. If it's just for letters I suppose all they can give you is stamps becuse they don't really have monetry value. Our stuff have been parcels, with items worth money in. I suppose the only way to guarntee properly is to send special, but then this just goes against the point of signed for, and actually paying extra for a service, but you should at least be refunded the cost of sending the letter if it doesn't get there.

After all the hassle of calling them 10 times, getting the claim form, filling it in, taking it to the PO, then phoning to check its status. I did not even get the £1 refund! What a waste of time! I think it is intentional to make us jump through hoops and frustrate us to prevent claims. The sooner their monopoly is broken up the better. I now try to send via courier whenever possible.
