I have used miomap software on the pocket pc once, if it's the latest version this is not bad. Not quite a tomtom but it will be better than some cheaper ones I am guessing.0

There's a fairly comprehensive review here:

*EDIT* Actually it's possible the review is for a slightly older version, the Tesco version appears to be the 268+ rather than the 268, not sure of the differences.0 -

This one also includes lifetime traffic alerts - often the antenna can cost £60 in addition to the basic Mio 268+ unit.
I have ordered one, and will try it out over the next couple of weeks. If the traffic alerts don't work well enough - some people say they work very well, Mio say they're not available in the UK!!!, Tesco say this unit comes with lifetime traffic - then I will be returning it.
I can read a map, but traffic alerts are invaluable, so long as they're based on trafficmaster and not the out of date rubbish you get on radio station traffic reports. It's not clear to me yet which flavour of alert the Mio uses.0 -
AFAIK the TMC data is lifted off FM radio, usually the station classical FM. And it is online in the UK but I remember reading of some people having difficulties with using it on tom toms, but I think tomtom resolved that with a software update. My guess is a software update would be needed from mio too if it was found not to work. If mio has abandoned softare support for this unit in favour of future ones then I would be concerned.0

As posted elsewhere, the Garmin Streetpilot i3 is still available from Motorworld for £99.99 inc. next day delivery. When you register the unit online, Garmin will on request, and for no charge, send you European maps on DVD to use in addition to the UK & Ireland data supplied.

How do you go about getting this European Map DVD? I haven't registered my i3 yet, so it would be handy. Is there a link on the garmin site?
Thanks

You need to create an account in "myGarmin" on their website, and register the unit on the account. (Will need a reference number off the yellow slip that should have been in the packaging with your i3).
You then go to "MapSource Unlock" and click where it says "Eligible for a map update?"
You should then be offered City Navigator Europe NT v9 Deluxe Unlock free of charge. Says should arrive in about 10 working days.
Hope this helps.0 -
I've got both TomTom and Mio on my PocketPc, and of the two, I think Mio wins hands down. I've just about stopped using TT at all. But that's not why I sent this thread!
If you check out:

You'll see that quite a few people have "hacked" their 268/269/268+/269+ and turned them into a pocketpc with GPS built in. And for £140 that's an absolutely storming deal.
That's because the 268+ "is" a pocket pc, running MIO, but it's locked down to make it a dedicated satnav device.
Mio, by the way, can be "skinned" using the hack. And it's a re-badged version of "IGo" which has had some pretty good reviews for it's 3.2 incarnation - which is what this is.
