old pension with no contributions and little value - what to do?

I have searched other threads in an effort to find a similar question and relevant answer but so far without success so I am posting my own question for all you pension experts out there :)

My wife was subscribed to an Executive Pension Plan by an employer back in 1987 when she was in her early twenties. The job didn't work out and so when she left this pension was left idle with no additional contributions being made to it. It's value has been lounging around the £1000 mark for years now with increase in value being eroded by admin charges.

I believe that as an Exec plan it is bound by different rules than other personal pension plans...is this correct?

Ideally I would like to simply transfer/merge this amount into another plan but the only ones my wife has are superannuation and a contracted out of SERPS plan.

Any advice and suggestions would be most appreciated....or do we simply leave it as is and take a 27p pension when she gets to pensionable age (is that 50 for woman?)

Thanks.
