Manchester - casino for night out
I'm trying to plan a night out at the casino for hubby's 40th. Although it doesn't seem very money saving on the surface we're obviously going to enforce a strict gambling budget and also figured that it could be a good night with entertainment and food all in the same venue and need not necessarily cost much more than a regular night out.
Anyway, am a complete novice and have never been into a casino before. We do quite fancy getting a bit dressed up as hubby and his friends all bought DJs for our wedding and enjoy dusting them off every now and then. I am thinking James Bond.
So any recommendations? Do places exist with other stuff to do other than sit at tables and gamble? So when our money runs out we don't just have to go home. We're looking at the Manchester area - travelling from Bury.

A great thing about UK casinos is that your coke and tea and coffee is FREE! It can be a great MSE night out.
We went to broadway plaza birmingham for my brothers birthday, and had a buffet chinese beforehand £10 ppn and then casino!
Most people break even whilst gambling, as long as you don't get carried away, you may come away with all your gambling money!
I the UK, you generally have a choice of roulette, blackjack ot three card poker for table games.
Look for roulette tables with minumum bid of 50p, give the dealer a £5, £10, £20 note etc, and he will give you chips to that value. You then spread chips either directly on the number or you can cover corners so 2 or 4 numbers are covered. You get something like 35/1 odds on a single number, if your bet is spread across more than one number, the returns on a winning number are less, but you have higher chance of winning.
Blackjack is like 21 pontoon, you have to bet the house to 21 without going bust (going over 21).
3 card poker (according to DH who plays poker tourneys) is a waste of money. The odds are stacked strongly in the house's favour.
Apart from that there will be a small selection of fruit machines.
I like just chilling in the Lounge/bar area the best as i get scared of losing! Make the most of free coke/tea/coffee. Alcohol, j20 etc is chargeable. You get the free drinks either from waitress (she expects small tip of about £1) or from bar (they also expect tip about 50p per order- so get loads of drinks)
Don't forget to make everyone join, you will get sent offers through the post for freebies etc.
Have a great time!

PS a lot of punters wear jeans, so i'd go more for smart casual in case you feel a bit overdressed??0 -
Don't forget passports/driving licences for ID!

Hiya, the main one's are G-Casino which is the new one but you will feel a bit of a twit if you dress up there although they have a band on a saturday and friday night and most people are wearing casual/smart clothes as they go to clubs and 'proper' bars afterwards, although one could spend a whole night there and really enjoy it as they have nice sofa's and restaurant area and for the novices have machines too.
If you want to dress up go to 235 casino which isn't very money saving as the minimum bet is 5 pounds there regardless of the game to keep out all the common people but you will prefer that if it's a birthday I'd recommend that one (and you may even see a celeb in there too)
Avoid all the one's near china town like circus and grosvenor as they have the more hard-core addicts and it isn't very pleasant in there.
Hope you have a good night as all groups do when they go the one's I visit and remember if you go to G-casino then at the till they should have vouchers for first-timers for a free meal (buy one get one free).
All the best.Playing with my money is like playing with my emotions!:cool:0
