Help Halifax are being a pain in the a**e

Hi all

My Hubby is on a dmp and all creditors have accepted lower monthly payments, however, halifax are sending my oh monthly letters along the lines of you owe xxx amount and we have been trying to contact you in regards to your account, but hold no contact info for you ( which i know is aload of ssshhh as they ring the house phone once a month also ). The dmp have advised thats its just a scare tactic ( which is working ) to get him to pay full amount ( which he/we carnt afford ) and to ignore the letters.

My hubby gets really down when these letters arrive and we end up having a row about it. As hubby works all hours god sends, i am the one in charge of his dmp.

I have been thinking of writing a letter to halifax stating that all letters, calls etc are to be made via the dmp.

Any more advice with be very very helpful :)

  • Halifax will continue to send the letters, they have to make you aware what the situation is and how long it continues to be that way.

If they didn't you may well have a point in saying, why didn't you tell me to correct this before such and such point.

The main thing is have Halifax accepted the payment arrangement, they accepted mine at £25.00 per month and that was just with me writing to them to ask.

But please don't expect them to stop sending you reminders and call, if not anything else they are all automated.

HTH - But you seem to know what you are doing anyway :-)

I believe that you cannot favour one, creditor than other creditors, on a dmp, they are paid pro-rata, l am sure experts here, would point out that it is against rules.... l am sure l read this or this is fact good luck
  • Yes I agree, but don't worry if you have chosen this method, stick with it and ignore!

Halifax One CC acted in a similar way a couple of times towards the end of my DMP. It is an attempt to scare or squeeze more money out of you. I spoke to them on the phone going over the reasons why the DMP was in place and telling them why they could not have extra money. They gave up and accepted the situation eventually.

    Thanks all for your replies.

Halifax have had the same amount for the past 12 months and are looking to increase it which he/we can not afford to do. The only debt thats gets a little more each month is barclaycard as they have not frozen interest.

Halifax will have to go whistle for extra money
