Thats fine Wanchai, you needn't read my posts, I don't mind. I promise not to comment on yours

Ooh, saucer of milk at table 2! (oh, there are no table numbers anymore! where should I deliver the saucer of milk? etc). Seriously, handbags down...not much need for bickering on a board about weddings!

Anyway, back on the original thread - we hated the idea of a table plan at our wedding. So we scrapped it. And scrapped most of the tables, too, for that matter. If there's one thing true about people - they adapt. Plenty of people ate stood up, some sat on sofas, a couple of oldies sat down. It was no problem.

Sorry about that, really bad day and I took it out on the board. Just felt a little unwanted that's all.

I've never attended a wedding without a seating plan - I'd be worried about finding seats together or the odd people who no-one goes to sit with until there's no other options. But as a previous poster says - each to his own :p

One thing I would suggest is having your speeches between your main course and desert. Everyone is usually starving by the time you reach the wedding breakfast (stood around for hours, photos etc.) so all they really want is to get some food. If you do the first two courses, then speeches so everyone has time to rest before dessert. We did this and it worked really well :T

I too love his input on all the threads. It's great to have a rational view at times. And very annoying that I find he is (almost) always right.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

I suggested having no table plan because David (the groom) was commenting that his friends and family (obviously, he can't speak for my family as he knows them less well!) would feel more comfortable with a less formal set up.

Also, by allowing people to sit where they wish, we essentially rid ourselves of the headache of "how dare you sit me next cousin xxxxxx, you must KNOW we stopped talking last month!" and all the other little family politics that can crop up!

My parents are heavily involved in the wedding planning, partly because they are paying for the bulk of it, and partly because I work full time whilst also studying for a full time professional degree, and I have a fatigue disease, so most of my precious time that i'm not at work, at uni, doing homework, portfolio work or housework is spent trying to rest and recuperate! It's wonderful that mum can do the big searches for things, then i just have to pick from a shortlist, makes things much simpler for me, at least!
    Life on a shoestring!

I always recommend people do a table plan - I have worked at lots of weddings and the ones where there were no plans can be sooooo akward.

It can end up a bit like picking sides for a school team, especially if it is for a proper sit down meal. If it is for a bbq or buffet you expect it. If you don't want your guests to feel akward give them direction and follow what they expect to a degree. People like to know what to expect and like to not have to think 'outside the box' especially on a potentially stressful day.

You don't have to stick with tradition - we sat with some of our close friends - no 'top table' and I thought long and hard about who sat with who. Everyone loved who they sat with and many have become friends on faceache.

To me not doing a plan just seems a bit of a cop out...
