REALLY sorry if this is the wrong place, I don't seem to be able to find a specific council tax thread. We owe c/tax (and freely admit this). It's just been a peter/paul situation to the tne of £1300. My hubby had a breakdown in October and we have earnt bugga all since then, and have been surviving on child benefit of £134 and£490 his army pension per month since, plus anywhere from -£150 pm (carried over by our unerstanding bosses) to around £200. We can stand the losses we are mangers in a pub with no rent etc otherwise I do not know how we would have survived.
I got in touch with Rossendales 2wks ago, seeking to resolve the debt, explaining about breakdown and attempting to do the (ridiculously) deatiled statement they wanted. My Mum was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 days later, I am trying to deal with that ( and mailed them saying so and got a snotty email back saying not to email to their personal email addys..I didn't...I had replied to the general addy).
I am so stressed right now I do not know what to do. I know we owe the debt, I thought contacting them and trying to talk was the right thing, emails bar 2 are ignored, now the phone calls are starting. At this point I can do £70 a month, they haveindicated its not enough. I can ask our gaffers for a quick transfer, then pay Rossendales each month (and hope they dont find us for a bit...at least paying shows willing if I do that without them finding us?)
Other bit is my Dad lent us £1250 to tr to get us through (andit shows on bank statements and was sooo hard to ask).
Can I sign all our goods to my Dad in lieu of that debt? Really need some advice pls

Hi, Try speaking to the Royal British Legion, they offer services for ex-service people, this includes housing advice and debt help. Does your husband have a disablement war pension, if so was his condition due to service, his pension may need increasing, if current condition is linked to service i.e PTSD. Hope this helps.Mortgage: Aug 12 £114,984.74 - Jun 14 £94000.00 = Total Payments £20984.74

I would seek some urgent advice from one of the debt charities if you haven't already - national debtline can be helpful when it comes to bailiffs & council tax.
Hopefully one of the posters who are particularly informed re council tax debt will see this & give you some advice - but I think you would qualify as a vulnerable debtor given OHs MH issues and you may be able to get the debt passed back to the council so you can deal with them.
To help people advise you better could you provide a bit more detail-
What council tax years do your arrears relate to?
If more than 1 year do you know how many liability orders you have and that rossendales are trying to recover?
Does it relate to the property you currently live in?
Have they been to your property yet? Have they been inside?
As a separate issue - have you checked you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to? if you are working as a manager in a pub are you entitled to tax credits and are you claiming them?
- you might want to edit the title of your post to include the words council tax arrears so that they best people to advise are more likely to see the thread.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Speak to the Consumer Credit Counselling people, they helped me sort myself out, absolute life savers and they do not judge either. Contacted my creditors and I am on a debt management plan and can sleep at night now. Good luck.0
