Is a building society regarded as an independent adviser when it comes to mis-sold endowment mortgages? Help please.

Depends.
If the building society employed IFAs, then then the employer is the one you complain to. If it was a local arrangement (going back to 80s where it was more common) and the manager of the branch got a local accountant, solicitor or "independent" IFA to do the transaction, then it goes to the accountant, solicitor or IFA.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
After 1988 usually the BS was acting as a tied agent for the insurance company. Before 1988 the BS was often doing the selling itself. The insurer will tell you who is responsible for selling you the policy.Trying to keep it simple...
